HCD Surveys (http://hcdsurveys.com) is another site that I’m glad I found. It was new to me until I saw it listed on Lee’s list of survey sites from which he had been paid.

HCD Surveys is a points for cash survey site, paying $1 for every 100 points earned. You’ll get email invitations to let you know when a survey is available for you to take, or you can check the member page for surveys as well. HCD pays 10 points even if you don’t qualify which is a nice gesture. The surveys I have gotten have been mostly political in nature which suits me just fine

HCD doesn’t send out daily surveys, but I have gotten a couple a week. Payment ranges from $1 to $5 for the paying surveys, although I’ve gotten one that didn’t pay an incentive. The good news is that they always tell you that upfront, so you won’t find yourself wasting time for nothing.

Payment procedures from the HCD website:

How do I redeem the money that I have earned for participating in surveys?
Visit the “My Account” page and go to the “My Rewards” section on this page. Here you will be able to click on the “Redeem Rewards” link if you have earned 1000 points (worth $10) or more. After your request has been made, we will process and mail a check for the total amount of money you’ve accumulated. Please allow up to 8 weeks for payment processing.

As you can see, this survey site is simple, easy and straight to the point... just the way I like it!

Since I enjoy HCD Research (http://hcdsurveys.com/) surveys so much, I thought I would add a little more information about the company. I have earned and received $12.60 from HCD since February 27, 2008 when I initially joined. I currently have 510 points ($5.10). I like their point system better than others because 100 points = $1. Most surveys will earn you between 100 ($1) and 500 points ($5). You can cash out every $10. You also receive 10 points ($0.10) for every survey even if you disqualify. Checks arrive in about 6-8 weeks.

Most surveys that I have gotten from HCD have included a contemporary political interview video, which you watch and move a slider to show how much you agree or disagree with what the candidate is saying in real time. There are also surveys on healthcare topics. You will probably not get more than one or two surveys per week, but you will rarely be disqualifed unless you are too slow to click on the link. Some of these surveys close in less than an hour after the email hits your inbox.

Incentives for Participating in Surveys

How does the HCD Surveys Panel Point System work?

Although you earn money for surveys you participate in, your money is recorded on a point system. The point system is a simple one in which $1 is equal to 100 points. For example, if you have 550 points in your account, that is equal to $5.50. The best part is you will never have to redeem your points for anything other than cash!

How much money will I earn for participating in each survey?

The amount of points/money you earn for each survey will vary for each survey. On average, you will earn between $1 (100 points) to $5 (500 points) per study. From time to time, you may be invited to a survey that does not offer an incentive for participating. Each invitation you receive to participate in a survey will tell you how much money you will earn for completing the survey. Then you can decide which surveys you would like to participate in.

Will I get paid even if I do not complete an entire survey?

If you are invited to a survey but you do not complete all of the survey questions, you will not receive the incentive for that survey.

Will I get paid even if I do not qualify to participate in the survey?

If you are invited to a survey but do not qualify to participate, you will not be paid the incentive for that survey. However, for paying studies, panelists who enter a survey and are disqualified will be credited 10 points. To determine if you are qualified to participate in the survey, you must enter the survey and answer the screening questions. At the end of the screener, you will be told whether or not you qualify to participate. If you do not qualify, the 10 points will automatically be credited to your account.

Will I get paid if the segment for which I qualify has closed due to a full quota?

If you are invited to a survey but the segment for which you qualify has reached its quota, you will not be paid the incentive for that survey. However, for paying studies, panelists who enter a survey and are closed out (due to a full segment quota) will be credited 10 points. To determine if the segment for which you qualify is full or still open, you must enter the survey and answer the screening questions. Once your segment is determined, you will be told if the segment is closed. If the segment is closed, the 10 points will automatically be credited to your account.

How do I redeem the money that I have earned for participating in surveys?

Visit the "My Account" page and go to the "My Rewards" section on this page. Here you will be able to click on the "Redeem Rewards" link if you have earned 1000 points (worth $10) or more. After your request has been made, we will process and mail a check for the total amount of money you've accumulated. Please allow up to 8 weeks for payment processing.

Do I really get cash for participating in the HCD surveys?

HCD pays cash for surveys you participate in. Our system keeps track of the cash using points. The point system is easy to understand because 100 points is equal to $1. If you had 150 points in your account it would be equal to $1.50. Each time you earn points for participating in a survey, those points will always be equal to cash. You will never have to redeem your points for prizes.

I joined HCD surveys about a month ago and so far I have 360 points in my account. This panel is mostly for people who are interested in politics and government. I'm not interested in those areas but I'm a member only becauce of the points. They equal cash and that is enough for me to join this site.

I love HCD because their surveys are always less than 15 minutes, very interesting and interactive. Even though they currently rank only 13th on my Sites That Pay! (http://www.yourfreesurveys.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1&postcount=1) I click on every survey they send immediately because the quotas fill up within hours and sometimes within minutes and they always pay at least $1 (up to $5) if you complete the survey and $0.10 even if you are disqualified or the quota has been filled. I have missed three surveys due to the quota having been filled and four from being DQed.

Have anyone heard something else besides THE BELL at the begining of a survey?

For me, it has ALWAYS been the same... which I think is not good because I can have no audio and still be permited to do the survey by always selecting the bell option!

Tonight I got an invitation to review Hillary's speech. When I went to the site with my password there was a pull down selection. Althoug, by the time I got on the computer the heading wasn't available, there was one for Obama's. So maybe I'll get an official invitation tomorrow.

I just got an email from HCD regarding tonight's Obama speech:

Because your insights are important to us, we would like to offer you 200 points (worth $2.00) to participate in this study. The results of the study will be posted on mediacurves.com and other national media outlets.

Wait, didn't we get earlier invites offering 500 points?

very surprised the 500 points I thought was for Hillary's speech. Interesting that it is only 200 for Obama. Something this momentous you'd think would be worth more points. I told my husband the only way I would watch is if they payed me though!

It's back up to 500 points again.

Due to the addition of a last minute, non-partisan sponsor, we are now able to offer 500 points for participating in and completing tonight’s live test of Barack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention tonight at 10:00pm EST.

This national study will be hosted on our mediacurves.com web site. Our new easy-to-use video testing system will require only simple mouse clicks to indicate whether participants agree or disagree with the statements made in Senator Obama’s speech.

The results of the study will be posted on mediacurves.com and other national media outlets.

The Media Curves web site provides the media and general public with a venue to view Americans’ perceptions of popular and controversial media events and advertisements.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is required to participate in this study.

To participate in the study, go to the following link at 9:55 PM EST and enter the username and password provided below:

but the video was a collection of frozen frames, and the file did stop fill the buffer (if that makes sense) frequently. So I was hearing the speech a few minutes after broadcast TV. The video cut off at 11:00 sharp, and being a few minutes behind, I missed his closing. My screen did show a "thank you" message from HCD.
I hope I'm not disqualified.

Hubby filled me in the closing quotes from Dr. King and Scripture, and we both came away with the same opinion.

Eddie, I logged in early and got the same message. I noticed that the url ended with the words "stream stopped, " so after 9:55 I clicked on the email link again to open another window. This time I got the refreshing screen. After a few minutes of refreshing, I got the WMP screen, this time showing the last few minutes of the Obama film.

The same happened to me too. The audio was fine for the most part apart from the buffering problems throughout. The video was a different story and was basically a frozen frame throughout most of the speech. The video cut off as soon as the speech was over on live television and i did get the same Thank You message from HCD so i'm guessing i qualified for the incentive.

I just finished looking over my HCD account and according my account history I did qualify for the Obama Speech survey :D. So now I have 940 points and that means I need 60 more points to cash out.... :D (I probably will not cash out when I reach 1000 points because well I haven't cashed out for almost a month)

I just signed up for the new survey on the Presidential Debate on Friday. I signed up for the e-mail rather than the cell phone survey. HCD is offering 50 points per question with about 10 questions expected. If you complete all the questions HCD will give you 100 points as a bonus. Anyone else signed up for this survey yet??

I just finished reading the Presidental Debate email and I have also register but I'm not sure if the Debates will happen. Here is why:

McCain suspends campaigning (http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=9885159&ch=4226716&src=news)

But then their is this:

Obama rejects McCain's call to delay debate (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080924/ap_on_el_pr/mccain)

Well folks looks like the US Economy is not looking so good. Could the US could face another Great Depression (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080924/ap_on_el_pr/palin;_ylt=AmY4rAAn0XiIHKhaEqnQ4ldI2ocA)? Well I think it's possible since the US national debts is over 9.7 trillion. I think it will reach 10 trillion by the end of this year. Hopefully the next president will do something to improve this. Not good!!

By the way, I'm still without power in my household. It will be two weeks without electricity on Friday. This is alway not good!!

I'm glad to say that today I got power back to my household after two weeks without electricity. That was two really long weeks that I had to endure since there was no A/C and I only have limited computer usage with the generator. I was relieved when I heard the sound of electricity at 7:53 PM today. Hopefully everything will back to normal in here and of course no more massive power outages.

Anyway, I did not get to participate in the Debate survey today because I had no power to email. Did anyone participated in this study?

The same thing happened to me - I got to answer only 3 questions. I talked to one of my sisters and she only got 4. Another sister did the text and she said she got a total of 9.

I too sat and waited after the debate for quite some time and still no more questions. I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one having this problem. Now I know it had to be their glitch and we will have to wait to see how we are going to get rewarded because of it.

I also took and emailed them last night to let them know of this problem. I'm sure others also did the same - so that should help in our case.

Today I received this email from HCD Research that I thought you all might find interestings...

-- HCD Research will announce winning ads morning after Super Bowl --

Flemington, NJ, January 12, 2009 — HCD Research announced today that for the third consecutive year, it will conduct a national study during the Super Bowl to rate and announce the winning ads early Monday morning.

The company will host the study and report the results on its mediacurves.com web site the morning of February 2. To view the winning Super Bowl ads from 2007 and 2008, go to www.mediacurves.com

http://i40.tinypic.com/2hrfknl.jpg

In addition to the winning ad of Super Bowl XLIII, HCD Research will announce the winning ads in the following categories:

Advertainment
Network spots
Public Affairs
Movie Trailers
Call-to-action

According to Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research, the company will use quantitative research techniques in which different segments of the national sample will view three advertisements. “This approach is consistent with research techniques that we use to conduct communications research for our clients,” explained Kessler. “Using a large random sample of Americans and our state-of-the art applications, we will accurately obtain viewers’ reactions to all of the Super Bowl ads.”

Ad Testing Methodology

During the game, the Super Bowl ads will be inserted into a web survey and sent to a national representative sample of more than 2,000 participants. Responders will answer questions regarding their perceptions of the ads using various parameters, including breakthrough, emotion, memorability and involvement. They will also utilize an automated response system to indicate their level of interest in quarter-second intervals as they watch an ad.

The interest levels will be analyzed in the form of curves to determine which commercials had the highest sustained levels of interest. The curves will be used as part of a metric to calculate and rank the advertisements and determine the winning ads. The metric will also include a measurement for emotions and an index for “word of mouth” impact of the ads.

Editors/Reporters: For more information on the ad testing, or to speak with Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research, please contact Vince McGourty, HCD Research, at (908) 483-9121 or (vince.mcgourty@hcdi.net).

HCD Research is a communications research company headquartered in Flemington, NJ. The company's services include traditional and web-based marketing and communications research. I got that too. So when do you think we'll hear more?

Well the email says the results will be posted on Feb2 on the media curves website.. I guessing that is the day after the super bowl..

But I wonder how the will allow the viewers to choose the winners. Are they going to send a survey about the commercials after super bowl ends?

Yesterday I received the email invite shown below...

Dear Panel Member:

HCD Research would like to invite you to register to participate in our online survey regarding the Presidential Inauguration occurring on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. It should take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete both portions of the survey and you will receive 50 points for your participation. The registration includes a few brief questions and the second portion of the survey will be sent at or near the conclusion of the Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2009. Only upon competition of this will you receive the points. After the survey has closed you will be able to view the final results online at: http://www.MediaCurves.com/

I registered for this study with out knowing what time the speech would be made. Well I found at that the Obama speech will be at 10:30 CT. I will be no where near a computer at that time so I will probably not be able to participate in this survey because of a over quota is very likely when taking a HCD survey four or more hours after the email invite.

Did anyone else sign up for this study....?

I signed up. I live in the DC suburbs. I have to watch. It lets me know when my visiting relatives watching the Inauguration first-hand on the National Mall will need me to pick them up at a suburban Metro stop.

My family only visits me when it's useful to them. :(

-- Amanda Congdon Will Introduce Winning Ads Monday Morning --

Flemington, NJ, January 29, 2009 — HCD Research announced today that it will compare the 2008 and 2009 Super Bowl ad testing scores to determine if viewers respond differently in 2009 as a result of the economy. Amanda Congdon, a noted writer, actress and producer will introduce the winning ads of Super Bowl XLIII on the company’s mediacurves.com web site on Monday morning after the game. Congdon has created and co-created many web video projects including her current show, Sometimes Daily, and AC on ABC, Amanda Across America, Rocketboom and Starring Amanda. She has also appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

The company will host the study and report the results on its mediacurves.com web site the morning of February 2. To view the winning Super Bowl ads from 2007 and 2008, go to www.mediacurves.com. In addition to the winning ad of Super Bowl XLIII, HCD Research will announce the winning ads in the following categories:

Advertainment
Movie Trailers
Network Spots
Other (public service, call-to-action, etc.)

“We are comparing our testing scores to determine whether people respond to the 2009 ads differently than they did in 2008,” commented Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research. “With the challenges in the economy, it will be interesting to see if viewers’ perceptions and emotions are different than last year.”

Dear Panel Member

HCD Research, using its MediaCurves.com web site, will be conducting its third annual on-line study to test the television commercials that are aired during the 2009 Super Bowl.

We would like to invite you to register to participate in the evaluation of the 2009 Super Bowl commercials for this year’s study. The survey will be conducted throughout the airing of the Super Bowl on Sunday February 1, 2009. Each commercial rating will take approximately 2-3 minutes to complete. This year, we will be testing all commercials that run during the airing of the game. Participants will rate a minimum of 5 commercials and will receive 100 points for their participation once this minimum has been met. You will have the opportunity to rate more than 5 commercials if you choose to do so. 10 points will be earned for every additional commercial rating after the minimum has been met.

To register to participate in this survey, please click on the link below:

(Link deleted)

We will notify you by email on the day of Super Bowl Sunday (February 1, 2009) as soon as the survey begins. The study is likely to conclude within several hours after fielding starts. While we will attempt to register only as many people as needed to conduct the study, we will need to have some over-enrollment to allow for those who are unable to respond to the study. Therefore, the survey will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

The use of MS Internet Explorer web browser is recommended for this survey. All responses and contact information from study participants are kept in the strictest confidence. Our privacy policy can be viewed online at http://www.hcdsurveys.com/Privacy.cfm

I completed seven surveys and then the page froze. I decided to keep the page open and when I refreshed later last night I was able to rate 31 Superbowl commericals for 360 points. Did anyone else do better than that? The link still worked this morning when I did the final one.

I just got this in:

:

Top Five 2009 Ads Score Lower than Top Five 2008 Ads --
Flemington, NJ, February 2, 2009 – Results of a national study conducted among Super Bowl viewers last night revealed that the Budweiser Horse Circus ad was selected as the number one ad of Super Bowl XLIII. To view the rankings for all of this year’s Super Bowl ads go to: www.mediacurves.com
The study was conducted by HCD Research using its Media Curves web site, during February 1-2, among a nationally representative sample of Americans over the age of 18.
In addition to the winning ad of Super Bowl XLIII, HCD Research announced the winning ads in the following categories:

Advertainment
Movie Trailers
Network Spots
Other (public service, call-to-action, etc.)
“This year we compared our Super Bowl ad testing scores against the scores from last year,” said Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research. “Our study revealed that the top five ads this year scored statistically lower than the top five ads from last year, which may indicate a change in viewers’ attitudes as a result of the current economic situation.”

Wow dude that is impressive. 31 commercials for 360 points!! I did the minimum of 5 commercials for 100 points even though I wanted to do more, but couldn't becasue I had strict schedule I try to follow... Plus another reason I didn't attempt to evalute more commercials is because my internet is really slow. Yeah it's DSL but it takes several minutes to download a commercial. And yeah You must not need sleep, Lee

11. HCD $74.90 ($10 minimum pay out) (1000 = $10) (Joined: 2008-02-27) ($74.90 rec'd)

A very consistent earner with short surveys on political subjects and other current affairs, like the Presidential debates, Superbowl ads and American Idol surveys. Most surveys pay between 100 ($1) and 600 ($6) points and their points system is the easiest to remember because 1 point equals 1 cent. The minimum cash out is 1000 points or $10.

You will only receive about one survey per week at most, but they do credit you with 10 points even if you are disqualified. You should be able to cash out about once per month. Checks arrive in 6-8 weeks and, currently, HCD does not have PayPal.

Technical support and customer service is better than average and you can contact HCD through via email their website or by calling 1-888-404-9393.

12. HCD $87.65 ($10 payout) (1000 = $10 po) (Joined: 2008-02-27) ($87.65 rec'd)

I have earned and received $87.65 from HCD since February 27, 2008 when I initially joined. I like their point system better than others because 100 points = $1.00. Most surveys will earn you between 100 ($1) and 500 points ($5). You can cash out every 1000 points ($10). You also receive 10 points ($0.10) for every survey even if you are disqualified. Checks arrive in about 6-8 weeks.

Most surveys that I have gotten from HCD have included a topical political interview video, which you watch and move a slider to show how much you agree or disagree with what the person is saying in real time. There are also surveys on health care topics. You will probably not get more than one or two surveys per week at most, but you will rarely be disqualified unless you are too slow to click on the link. Some of these surveys close in less than an hour after the email hits your inbox. I have missed four surveys due to the quota having been filled and 11 from being DQed.

Add a short description of MediaCurves surveys with each link
Post these links on any website
These websites can include your Facebook wall, blogs, discussion boards, or any other open internet site

In return and once we verify the links, we will give you 100 points! It’s an easy and fast way for you to gain points on your HCD Survey account and promote the great work you do through MediaCurves studies!

Here are some sample postings you might put up:

If posting to your own website, Facebook page, Digg, etc.(in this case, about the UK PSA on texting while driving)

I am part of the HCD Survey Panel and have been participating in MediaCurves.com studies. MediaCurves.com conducts many surveys testing TV commercials. They just conducted a study with 300 viewers of a Public Service Announcement (PSA) from the U.K. illustrating the dangers of texting and driving. Results showed that majority of viewers (80%) reported that they are less likely to text while driving after watching the PSA. The study also found that 85% of American viewers reported that the PSA should be aired in the U.S. The majority of viewers (87%) believe that the PSA is appropriate in nature, and 86% also indicated that the PSA was extremely effective. More in-depth results can be viewed at http://www.mediacurves.com/NationalMediaFocus/J7508-PSA/Index.cfm
If you are posting on your Twitter page (in this case, about e-book readers)

Tweet or Re-tweet: “You may be interested in a study from MediaCurves.com. They compared views of Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s e-book readers: http://bit.ly/R1mrS ”

If you are posting a comment on a blog or response to a news article (in this case, about Coke Vio)

MediaCurves.com just conducted a study with 300 viewers of a recent CNN video discussing the new Coke Vio beverage line. Results showed that 56% of viewers would consider purchasing Vio if it was available to consumers. The study also found that 66% of viewers do not think this beverage will be successful among consumers. More in-depth results can be viewed at http://www.mediacurves.com/NationalMediaFocus/J7502-CokeVio/Index.cfm

Thanks.
(Your name here)

Here are some general rules:

Which studies qualify?

You may post about any MediaCurves studies that have been released in the past month or so, such as our studies on Coke Vio, Swine Flu, Health Care Reform ads, and the Texting While Driving PSA.

What if I didn’t participate in the survey?

You can post studies that you personally participated in – as well as those you did not.
More details about what qualifies for points – and what does not:
If you post on a blog, the comment must be approved by the blog’s administrator in order for that entry to count.
While you are welcome to post these on as many websites as you want, you will only get points for the first three you post.
You will not get points for a post on the MediaCurves forum or the MediaCurves Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Digg page.
You must send all three links in one email, because we will not individually keep track of the number of posts each panel member gets.
You will not get points for multiple posts on the same web page. However, you can post several times on a website if the posts are on different pages or if they are about different story results.
We must be able to see the posts via links you email us to get the points.
You may not tamper with any websites in order to post. Only post on relevant websites with a specific area open to comments.
When is the deadline for this promotion?

All submissions must be emailed to barbara.taylor@hcdi.net by September 27, 2009.

When do I get my points?

Once we confirm the list of pages you posted on, we will add 100 points to your account. We expect this to be done within a week of receiving the email.

What if I have additional questions or concerns?

Please contact us at barbara.taylor@hcdi.net or 908-483-9138. You can also message us on Facebook if you need any help. Just go to “followers” on the MediaCurves Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Flemington-NJ/MediaCurves/86691908820), and look for BarbaraAtMediaCurves.
