To be honest, I haven't joined Nielson Net Ratings (http://www.yourfreesurveys.com/links.php?id=6) because it requires a download to your computer to join. Some of you may not have a problem with that, but I'm generally a cautious sort :)
For those of you who don’t mind the required download, you will be sent several survey invitations a month. You are rewarded for your participation by several instant win opportunities, and there is a quarterly $10,000 drawing which you will be entered into as well. I’ve never known anyone who has been paid cash, but it seems that sweepstakes entries abound for those of you who enjoy that.
The purpose of Nielsen/Net Ratings is to help shape the future of the Internet and its practices. Just like the Nielsen TV surveys keep track of our viewing habits, likes and dislikes, Nielsen/Net Ratings uses the information that they gather from your Internet usage to help business make decisions in the realm of the worldwide web.

of this survey panel since well I don't know when. I did install that program in my computer but one day my computer got infected by a virus. Since then the Nielson Net Rating program has NEVER started up when I turn on the computer but I am STILL a member of their survey panel. They send me occasional surveys that are mostly for entries to sweepstakes. But I did get a PAID survey about two months ago. It was about 15 minutes and I think it was about Internet websites like Yahoo!. I got $5 for taking that survey and I hope I get more paid surveys from them I the near future.

I've joined, unjoined, rejoined and finally decided that the Nielsen Net Ratings (http://www.nielsennetpanel.com) panel is just not worth it. I have the Nielsen Homescan Scanner sitting on my kitchen counter right now...ready to be packed up and sent back. I am not scanning everything I buy just for a chance at a sweepstakes prize and their surveys aren't too hot either. Anyway, here is the info from their site. Some people find it worthwhile and they are a very well-respected survey company in other respects.
For more than 50 years, Nielsen Television Families have helped shape TV programming and advertising by sharing information on their viewing habits. Now it's your turn to help revolutionize another important frontier - the Internet - by joining Nielsen's iPanel. Nielsen iPanel is an online market research panel that helps us understand how people like you are using their computers and the Internet. We do this by monitoring your computer and Internet usage through our proprietary iPanel software and through your participation in surveys. By participating in Nielsen's iPanel, you will influence strategies of leading companies and drive innovation in the marketplace. In addition, you will be eligible to play our "Wave and Win" Instant Rewards game and have the chance to participate in other exciting prize drawings!
Participating in the iPanel is easy:
1. Fill out your household profile below.
2. Complete the installation of our NielsenOnline.exe iPanel software.
3. Simply use your computer and the Internet as you normally would.
Your household will represent thousands of households like yours across the United States. To help us understand how households like yours are using their computers and the Internet, our proprietary iPanel software will automatically collect a broad range of information, including personally identifiable information, from you and any other members your household who use the computer(s) on which our software has been installed. For example, we collect the (i) type, name and use of some of the applications, files and hardware on your computer, (ii) address and content of the Internet sites you visit, (iii) the date and duration of the web sites you visit and (iv) details of certain online transactions, such as retail purchases and banking activity, you enter into on the Internet (including secure sessions). From time to time, we may ask you to participate in a survey to help us better understand Internet behavior and use.
We use the information that you and other panelists provide us to conduct research and to prepare anonymous statistical reports and analyses concerning how computers and the Internet are used in the United States and around the world. We are committed to the privacy of our panelists, and would never share personally identifiable information you provide us to our clients, nor will we ever use this information to advertise, promote or market third party goods or services to you. In certain limited circumstances, we may disclose your personal information to third parties, including to the vendors we engage to perform certain panel functions on our behalf (such as sweepstakes administration).
As this is just an overview of the data we collect and how it is used, please read our Privacy Policy (https://www.nielsennetpanel.com/pnl/us/mgp_main.privacy_policy?p_session_id=8736862080628 123921) for further details. We thank you for participating in Nielsen's iPanel and for helping shape the future of the Internet!
To join our exciting panel you need to go to our Join Now page. It's free to join and easy to sign up! Complete the member profile page by providing us with some basic information about yourself and the other members of your household. You will be prompted to create a username and password which will enable you to make changes to your profile in the future
Once you have completed your member profile, you will be asked to download the Nielsen//NetRatings Internet Panel Software. The download will only take a few minutes and will not slow down or affect your computer's performance. The panel software allows us to gain an overall understanding of Internet usage and behavior and deliver periodic surveys relevant to you.
After completing the install, you will be prompted to restart your computer. This final step activates your participation.
Congratulations! You are now a part of the Nielsen Family! The information gathered about your Internet surfing, along with optional surveys you fill out, will be used to help today's leading businesses and websites serve you better.
You will be rewarded for your participation with 2 chances to play our Wave and Win Instant Rewards game and win one of 1,500 different prizes. In addition, you will receive 2 entries in our $10,000 quarterly prize drawing. Every month you remain in our panel, you will receive 2 more chances to win instantly and even more entries into our grand prize drawing. Want to earn more daily game plays? I don't really scan everything my household purchases. I ONLY scan whenever I remember to do it and whenever I feel like scanning. Plus sometimes I don't scan anything until Fridays. I average three or four scans a week. You only have to scan one time to be entered in the sweepstakes and I think you get the same points no matter how many times you scan but I'm not sure about that.

Yesterday I got another paid survey from Nielsen Net Rating. It was about technology and paid $5 but I did not qualify for this survey even though I answered the survey in a way to maxmize my chances of qualifying.

Well yesterday Heath posted a interesting blog entry that called about Niesen Net Ratings. Here is that message:
An email came the other day with an announcement about Nielson/Net Ratings that I thought might be of interest to y’all (that would be “you guys” to all my northern friends ) My issue with them has always been that they didn’t pay out in cash, as this has been a sweepstakes only site for years. Now they will be paying $5 for every quarter that you continue to participate with them ($20 a year).
There’s a world of possibilities to earn rewardsAs a Nielsen//NetRatings Panel member, your browsing and buying habits not only help influence the future of the internet, they can also influence how companies actually do business with you. To show you how much we value your participation, you’ll have an opportunity to earn all sorts of members-only rewards and prizes.
Earn up to $20 annually for continued panel activity
The chance to win over 1,500 instant prizes
Entries into our $10,000 grand prize sweepstakes
Plus three additional ways to win:
Tell one to six friends - get two instant rewards plays and four grand prize drawing entries
Take a Nielsen survey - get two instant reward plays and two grand prize drawing entries
Remain active - get two instant rewards plays and two grand prize drawing entries every single month you send us data as a panelist
And if that’s not all, for every month of active participation via our panel software, you will be automatically granted more chances to win as well as more grand prize entries. You could say it pays traveling the world with Nielsen. Win prizes from these outstanding retailers:
Apparently, they are responding to member requests for some sort of cash incentives.

All I know is that I returned that silly scanning machine because that was too much like work and you could only receive lame prizes. I told them they needed to offer cash before I would consider joining again.

Well Today I received the same email that was posted on the YourFreeSurveys Blog (http://www.yourfreesurveys.com/wordpress). I attempted to sing in using the link that was provided in the email but I was told that email was already used. So I logged in to reinstall the program because it never started up. Then I noticed you have to joined their panel after July 18 to qualify for the $20 incentive. So I send them a message about this. Here is that message in it's entirety:
I'm interested in the $20 for participating in this panel but I'm not sure if I qualify for the reward because I joined before July 18. I tried to join again from the link in the email, but I was told I that email was already used. Well after that I logged in to my account, to install the program again since the program NEVER started up when I turned on my computer. I'm wondering if I'm qualified for the $20 incentive after I reinstalled the program.
Thanks for your help and I really appreciate your panel because of the new reward program.

I do despise them but they offered me $10 in cash to reinstall their spyware, so I did it. After the $5 bill and five $1 bills arrived yesterday, I uninstalled it again.

I just quit Homescan after a year of perfect scanning and responses. I looked at the new prize catalog and the first item I wanted was 120,000 points, which my grandchildren won't make (I have none presently). I sent my notice a week ago and am still getting e-mails from them with surveys and newsletters, but no "send our crap back." I had 14000 points so I ordered a lunchbox.

Yeah, basically, their prizes suck, which is why I am not interested. Just remind me, what did they have for 120,000 points that was worthwhile? I bet it wasn't made by a recognizable name brand...

Today I visited the Nielsen Net Rating website and I was suprised to find out that they have a new name. Their panel is now called Digital Voice (https://digitalvoice.nielsen.com). Here is their new webiste. I like this page looks a lot better than the previous one with the car in the middle. The Digital Voice is the same Net Ratings meaning they still don't offer hard cash for joining, only Sweepstake entries.

I recently uninstalled the netRating software since I never received the monthly $15 for participating in the panel but I would definitely reinstall it if I was offered $5.
