I hate to break this to yall in a thread for a forum that you cannot join unless you have been chosen, but I have been a member of the Capitol One forum for the past eight months and they email you a $10 Amazon gift card for posting just four times per month. Since the IRS requires Capital One to aggregate amounts paid to a person over the course of a year (across all Capital One divisions and organizations) to determine our filing obligations, they must require winners to complete a W9 to ensure they have the appropriate information if filing ultimately is required.
A Form W9, or a substitute W9, is a standardized method for collecting the type of information that they would legally be obligated to include on any Form 1099 Misc filed with the IRS.
